Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition
Nioka Downey
Young Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition - First Round Finalist
Nioka Downey is a musical powerhouse in the making. She is a profoundly intuitive and empathetic musician with tremendous talents as a pianist, violinist and singer. Under the masterful tutelage of Jenni Flemming at the Young Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University, Nioka attained her AMUS A Diploma in Piano at 13 (after only 6 years of tuition) and later won first prize at the Queensland Piano Competition at 14. She is also under the brilliant direction of world-renowned violinist Courtenay Cleary, as she prepares for her AMUS A Diploma in Violin later this year. At her local church, Nioka enjoys performing piano and violin as well as singing and directing her church ensembles and church choir. She is truly a blessing to her church family and local community. Beyond her extensive musical and academic commitments, Nioka cherishes each moment of leisure time with her puppy Jessica, pursuing art and photography, and spending time with friends and family (preferably at the beach).
