Joshua Liam Walraven
Young Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition - First Round Finalist
Joshua Walraven, 15 years old, is from regional NSW. He started learning piano in kindergarten and quickly discovered his passion for music. He competed in his first eisteddfod at age 7 and has since earned many first places, championship victories as well as numerous awards and scholarships. Most recently he won two first places at the 2023 Queensland Piano Competition and was awarded the Max Olding Bursary. Since 2021 he has been competing at Sydney Eisteddfod, where he has won major prizes.

At the age of 11 Joshua received his AMEB Associate in Music with Distinction under the tutelage of Dr Paul Rickard-Ford and in 2022 his AMEB Licentiate in Music under Ms Mimia Margiotta, who has been his teacher since 2020.

His love of music has meant many long hours of travel from his home in regional NSW to work in capital cities with exceptional teachers, and to meet and compete against like-minded musicians.

In addition to piano, Joshua also plays violin which he took up in 2016 in a number of ensemble groups. He is currently undertaking accelerated year 11 and 12 studies including Music 2 and Extension Music at the Senior College in Coffs Harbour.
