Shing Yau Yu

Young Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition - First Round Finalist

13-year-old Shing Yau Yu was born in Hong Kong and migrated to Australia in 2023. He is currently a Year 9 student at Wesley College, Glen Waverley Campus. Diego is a piano student of Glenn Riddle.

Shing Yau Yu has been invited to make his concerto debut in May when he will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 1 in C major with the Dandenong Ranges Symphony Orchestra conducted by Carlos del Cueto and his recital debut at Austral Salon in March.

He has received multiple awards before, including:

• 1st Prize in the regional final of the Pre-selection of the 2022 International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Children and Youth in China

• 1st Prize in the regional finals of the 83rd and 85th Steinway & Sons piano Competition in China

• 3rd Place in the grand final of the 7th Hong Kong International Music Festival

• 2nd Place in the grand final of PolMusicA 2023.
