Little Lev

The second Little Lev Piano Festival kicks-off early 2019 (dates TBC), with a series of advanced Masterclasses with Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition Artistic Director, Oleg Stepanov.

At each event, we’ll introduce six young pianists eager to explore their potential, improve their technical skills and learn from their peers in an inclusive, supported environment.

For audience members, it’s chance see some of the best young pianists in the country, and to enjoy a Masterclass by an experienced national and international pianist. Piano teachers, students and members of the public are encouraged to attend, to listen and learn in a friendly, non-competitive atmosphere.

Oleg Stepanov was born in Riga, Latvia and completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory under Professor Lev Vlassenko. In 1988 Oleg won the First Prize and Grand Prize at the prestigious international competition ‘Music de Chambre’ in Florence, Italy. Since then, he has performed widely throughout the former USSR and recorded for Moscow Radio and Television. He has appeared as a soloist and ensemble player in the former USSR, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Bulgaria, Poland Hungary, Hong Kong, Japan and Australia.His teaching career began at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he was invited to join the piano department. Oleg has been teaching at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University since 1992 and currently is a Coordinator of the Young Conservatorium Piano Program. Many of his students have won major national and international piano competitions and scholarships. Notable past students include 2015 London Music Award winner Belle Chen, 2015 Lev Vlasenko Piano Competition first-prize winner Ayesha Gough, and Aaron Lui, winner of Winner of the 2015 Melbourne Recital Centre Great Romantics Competition.

 Upcoming Events

Upon conclusion of the masterclasses, six students from the national cohort will be invited to attend a final masterclass and performance opportunity in Brisbane, taught by a Competition Jury member (to be announced). Two students from the Showcase will then be selected by the Lev Vlassenko Competition Jury to take part in a special performance during the Competition’s Final Concert.
