Oscar Wong

Oscar Shoyo Wong was a full music scholarship recipient at Emmanuel College before being granted early entry to the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, where he is currently a third year Bachelor of Music (Advanced Performance) student in the class of Natasha Vlassenko.

He previously studied with Judy Sun and Jennifer Newcomb. He is winner of the Ruby C Cooling Prize (2015/2016), Minnie May Bussey Pianoforte Scholarship (2016), ASKM piano competition, and a three-time first prize winner of the MTAQ Queensland Piano Competition. He recently participated in the 21st Hamamatsu International Piano Academy in Japan, and has had performances broadcast on 4MBS and 102.5FM radio. Oscar achieved L.Mus.A and L.T.C.L diplomas with distinctions, and was selected to perform at the annual Concert and Awards Presentation and received the Quota Joyce Phillips Award from the AMEB. He performed Schumann’s Piano Concerto with the Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra, and will be performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra under Johannes Fritzsch in November this year.

He has performed in masterclasses with artists including Angela Hewitt, Daniel Herscovitch, Boris Petrushansky, Vladimir Tropp, and Yukio Yokoyama among others. Oscar is also a passionate chamber musician, and has been involved in the Australian Piano Duo Festival and the Australian Festival of Chamber Music Advanced Winterschool, and is also an accomplished bassoonist.
