Richard is currently Chief Conductor and Head Of Orchestral Studies at the Melbourne Conservatorium Of Music at the University Of Melbourne.
He is known for his conducting of wide-ranging repertoire which extends across many genres from television soundtracks and recordings of avant-garde world premieres to concerts of the major symphonic repertoire.
He has enjoyed a long career as Principal Flute in the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and as afreelancing principal with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in Norway, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Hallé Orchestra.
Richard is a regular conductor of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, having programmed and conducted all the orchestra’s Family Concerts since 2009, and of its commercial recordings and award winning national radio broadcasting in the UK including its annual Christmas concerts. He conducted the BBC’s Bollywood Prom in the 2015 Proms season at the Royal Albert Hall and the City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra’s Bollywood Dance Concert in 2018. His previous appearances with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra include, amongst others, last year’s Music On Sundays series and Ed Kuepper’s concerts in Brisbane and Cairns during 2017.
