Born in 1997, Siyu Sun is currently studying for a Bachelor of Music with Dr. Rae de Lisle at The University of Auckland. Earlier this year, she performed with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Hamish Mckeish, and was awarded first prize in the National Concerto Competition.

In 2016, Siyu also performed with the University of Auckland Symphony Orchestra in the finals of the University of Auckland Graduation Gala Concerto Competition in the Auckland Town Hall. She received the Wilhelm Penseler Scholarship in Music, the Janetta Prize for Pianists, the Lions Club of Te Awamutu Scholarship and the Corboy Cup for the most outstanding competitor in Piano. Siyu also participated in the Wallace International Piano Festival last year, performing in master classes with Boris Giltburg, Albert Tiu and Read Gainsford. She is the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s Haydn Staples Piano Scholar for 2017.

Also a passionate chamber musician, Siyu has attended the NZSQ Adam Summer School for two years, and has competed in the NZCT Chamber Music Contest National Finals. Siyu has also studied the French Horn as a second instrument since the age of nine, and was a member of the 2014 NZSO National Youth Orchestra.
